International Business and Trade--China

Gain a true international perspective on business in a global society by selecting the IBT + China option. You’ll spend 10 weeks in Washington, then spend 3 weeks examining the impact and consequences of international trade policies on China in China.

What better place than China to examine international business from the context of a foreign country? China’s economic growth and development are unparalleled in modern history. If you choose to enroll in the China component, you’ll study for 10 weeks in Washington and then spend 3 weeks with other members of your class examining the impact and consequences of international trade policies on China in China.

You will visit several major political and economic centers, which may include Beijing, Shanghai, and Ningbo, and talk with leaders about such important topics as:

• Why China receives more than $12 billion in inward foreign direct investment

• The impact of World Trade Organization obligations on China’s political, educational, and economic institutions

• China’s trading interaction with the United States, the European Union and its neighbors

• The government’s involvement in its own economy compared with U.S. government policies

• Specific issues for industries such as finance, hospitality, transportation, agriculture, consumer goods, and automotive

• China’s traditional education system and ways to address changing opportunities and challenges
